Race Day Information

This page provides all you need to know for race day including travel information, registration and facilities.

Is this race for me?

Almost certainly, Yes!

The Seaside Runs provide a regular 5k race for both regular runners and beginners. Although each race is intended to be a lower key race than other established events locally it still attracts not only the beginner runners who may not yet have the confidence to go for a ‘big’ race but also the more established club runners who like a regular measure of their training and standard.

We keep the races as admin free as possible and friendly and good-humoured – but this approach does not turn the Seaside Runs into Fun Runs!

Travel Information

First, please make sure you are familiar with the race location and route.

If travelling by car there is parking available at Leasowe Lighthouse near to the race start and registration. However, this is not a circular race route so you’ll need to figure out how to get back from the finish!

A kit container is available at the start which is taken to the race finish. Many runners use this service to pick up a warm top at the finish and jog back to the start for their car as a warm down. Others arrange a car at each end with a friend. There is plenty of parking near the race finish for those choosing this option.

For those travelling by train, Moreton is the closest Merseyrail station to the start, and Wallasey Grove Road is closest to the race finish. Please note that these two stations are on different lines so you may need to change at Birkenhead North depending on your route.

Race Registration

Entry is online only and numbers should be collected on the day from our registration desk in Leasowe Lighthouse (drinks and snacks available) and we setup about 1 hour before the race starts. We recommend you collect your number 30 minutes before the start of the race to give yourself plenty of time.

As a result of increasing numbers and the pressure on the registration desk we shall close entries 10 minutes before the race start i.e. 6.50 p.m. Please make sure you have collected your number before this time to ensure you are eligible to run.

Note Under 11 years of age policy.

The race is licensed by English Athletics and we are bound by their policy on the maximum distance children should run. From 2018 children taking part must be over the age of 11.

Entry Cost

Entry is £7 (non affiliated) and £5 (UKA affiliated).

Facilities

Toilets are available a short distance away from Leasowe Lighthouse towards the race start position at the junction between Leasowe Road and Pasture Road.

Field size

The races have become increasingly popular and we typically have around 250 runners, but we do have a maximum of 500!

Weather

Being a coastal race the weather can have a big influence on times. We often have a tail-wind but obviously this cannot be guaranteed!

The BBC weather forecast for Wallasey can give a good indication of race conditions. Also check out the live WirralCam view from Leasowe Lighthouse.

Whatever the weather, the race is always a great event!
